Rep. Applebaum Praises Governor’s Budget Proposal

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

Saint Paul – Today, Governor Mark Dayton released his budget proposal for the next two years. With a budget surplus and a growing economy, he continued to build on the progress of the last two years by putting forward a regionally balanced budget that invests in early childhood education, affordable college, job training, transportation and broadband infrastructure, and tax breaks for hard-working, middle-class families.

“The last two years have seen tremendous progress for Minnesota. Our state has a budget surplus and a strong economy that continues to grow,” said Rep. Jon Applebaum. “The Governor’s budget continues that progress by investing in education, from pre-K for all four year olds to a more affordable college education. It helps working families by offering tax breaks for child care, and our seniors by making sure property taxes don’t force them out of their homes. This is a fair budget for Minnesota.”

The Governor’s budget guarantees that every child in Minnesota will be able to attend free Pre-Kindergarten, ensuring that more children are ready and able to succeed in school. It makes college more affordable and expands job training, which will keep good-paying jobs here in Minnesota as our economy changes. It invests in repairing our crumbling transportation infrastructure and expanding transit, making our communities more livable. The budget also expands tax credits and incentives for families raising children, making affordable, high quality childcare more accessible.
