News from Rep. Roz Peterson 05-01-2015

Friday, May 1, 2015

Dear Friends,

We're now in the home stretch of the 2015 session, with legislators beginning to meet for conference committees that will work out the differences between House and Senate bills.

I'm honored to have been appointed to the K-12 Education Conference Committee, where I'll get to serve alongside Education Finance Chair Rep. Jen Loon and Education Innovation Chair Rep. Sondra Erickson. I will keep you updated on our progress as conference committee negotiations continue.

Tax Relief for Families
Minnesota families are the big winners of our omnibus tax relief bill. Families with children in Pre-K, seniors living on social security, veterans receiving military retirement pay, and college graduates making student loan payments all will see tax relief under our bill. There's also a provision that creates long-term care savings accounts to help Minnesotans plan for future care costs.

With a $1.869 billion surplus, there's no reason Minnesotans should not see some tax relief and money back in their pockets. We hope the Governor and the Senate will work to provide more tax relief than what they've proposed so far as we near the end of session.

Visitor
Pastor Paul Marzahn from Crossroads Church in Lakeville gave the opening prayer before session this week. Thanks for visiting!
