Speaker Thissen statement on House Republican Committee Structure

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Saint Paul, Minnesota – Speaker Paul Thissen released the following statement on the announced committee structure by the incoming Republican House majority.

“Despite his recent call for an end to divide and conquer politics in our state, Representative Daudt has doubled down on that exact strategy with his new committee structure. It is disappointing to see Republicans in the House continue to focus more on talking points than solutions.

We are also disappointed the new House Republican majority has eliminated the Early Childhood committee. Strengthening and expanding early learning opportunities offers a big key to narrowing our achievement gap and building an economy of strength for the next generation.

But what will matter more than the names of their new committees is whether they will actually produce new ideas to improve the lives of Minnesotans. Thus far, we have only heard boiler-plate talking points from Republicans about their ideas for the future. We’re anxious to hear some of those ideas and hope they are not recycled ideas from the past that put corporate interests ahead of middle-class families.”
