St. Paul, Minnesota — State Rep. Joe Atkins released the following statement on today’s MNsure rate release and the news that Minnesota will still have the lowest rates in the country.
“Competition works. People thought I was crazy when I predicted Minnesota and MNsure would continue to have the lowest rates in the country. But that’s what competition does. MNsure is causing health insurers to fight for consumers’ business like they have never had to do before, and this is leading to great plans at great prices. In fact, for the first time in state history, some areas, like Southeastern Minnesota, are actually seeing decreases in the cost of health insurance.
“Republicans have spent months claiming that MNsure won’t work, celebrating every technical problem, and predicting massive rate increases. Today we have facts: Minnesota’s uninsured rate is the lowest in state history and our rates remain the lowest in the nation.
“MNsure is a little like Teddy Bridgewater – a little shaky at first and still more work to do, but starting to deliver some outstanding results. I’m optimistic for the future.”
