News from Representative Uglem 04-24-2015

Friday, April 24, 2015
Dear Friends,

This week the House passed the Road and Bridge Act of 2015 with bipartisan support. Minnesotans overwhelmingly support an approach that invests money into roads and bridges without a tax increase, which is exactly what our plan delivers. Cities in the Metro, suburbs, and Greater Minnesota all benefit from our plan that fixes 15,500 lane miles of roads and 330 bridges statewide.

Minnesotans are tired of being told we can't solve basic problems like fixing roads and bridges without taking more money from families. Within a nearly $40 billion state budget, we should be able to find the small amount of funding necessary to make sure Minnesota roads aren't filled with potholes and that our bridges are safe.

I'm proud to be a co-author on this bill, and of my colleagues on the Transportation Committee for their hard work to put it together. It was great to join a bipartisan majority in approving the bill on the House floor.

Today the House is expected to pass our Environment and Natural Resources Omnibus bill, which includes one of my provisions to eliminate what are known as microbeads in personal care products. Microbeads are commonly found in soaps and face washes, and are causing harmful sediment in lakes and rivers. I'm proud of the bipartisan support this bill has attracted throughout the legislative process, and am glad to see it passing off the House floor today.
