LOONAN PROVISIONS PASSED IN JOB GROWTH AND ENERGY AFFORDABILITY OMNIBUS BILL

Wednesday, April 22, 2015
ST. PAUL – Multiple pieces of legislation introduced by Rep. Bob Loonan (R-Shakopee) were passed by the House on Wednesday, April 22 as a part of the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance omnibus bill. The following proposals were included in and passed through as a part of the omnibus bill:

HF713: Establishment of a grant to the Minnesota High Tech Association to fund internships for college students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers through the SciTechsperience program.

HF1693: Co-authored by Rep. Joe Atkins (DFL-Inver Grove Heights), this bill provides funds for a program to return abandoned property to the owners.

HF1290: Provides that funding from the automobile theft prevention account is to be deposited in the insurance fraud prevention account, rather than the general fund as legislated in the status quo.

HF813: Amends current state law surrounding “new large energy facilities” to reflect federal codes.

Also included in the omnibus bill was an amendment by Loonan to regulate the solicitation of automobile accident victims.

“Thank you to my colleagues for their bipartisan support on these important pieces of legislation,” said Loonan. “Young people pursuing STEM careers who are unable to find a job due to lack of experience can now solve that problem, a reallocation of tax dollars will invest in programs that best suit Minnesotans’ needs, peace of mind will be provided by new regulations on accident victim solicitation, and state law related to energy will now match federal codes. I appreciate my colleagues’ support and look forward to quick action by the Senate and Governor.”

The Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance omnibus bill passed 73-56.
