Minnesota ranked third best state to make a living

Friday, July 11, 2014

Dear neighbors,

As the sixth best state for business in the country, it’s easy to see why Minnesota employers are expanding, putting people back to work and continue to feel optimistic about the state of our economy.

From the time the 2013-2014 legislative session began, Minnesota added over 50,000 jobs, helping to recover all the jobs lost during the worst recession since the Great Depression. There are now more jobs in Minnesota than at any time in our state’s history. That’s something we can all be proud of.

I’m also proud to announce that Forbes recently ranked Minnesota the third best state to make a living, a healthy improvement from being ranked 6th last year. The bump is the result of a “very low unemployment rate and excellent workplace conditions.”

Minnesota continues to boast one of the highest numbers of Fortune 500 companies per capita in the country, spread out among a diverse range of sectors. A diverse economy and well-educated workforce are big reasons why our median family income is consistently higher than the national average.

For tomorrow’s economic update, I’ll reveal where the Twin-Cities metro area’s unemployment rate ranks among metro areas throughout the country.

Sincerely,

Will Morgan
State Representative, District 56B
