Legislative Update (April 17, 2015)

Friday, April 17, 2015

Neighbors,

As we enter the last month of the legislative session, we are beginning to introduce our budget proposals. I am excited to report that many of my bills have been added to these bills and will soon be on the House floor, and I look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming weeks.

In Case You Missed It

Thank you to Ricardo Lopez of the Star Tribune for stopping by my office to discuss my role in the legislature. If you missed the interview in the Easter Sunday edition of the Star Tribune, you can read it online here. Like I told Ricardo, it is an honor to represent our district and have the opportunity to shape legislation that helps all Minnesotans – from families with children to college students to our elderly, and everyone in between.

Making Strides to Ensure a Great Education for All

As we move from committees into longer floor sessions, I continue to work hard for our children’s future. This week, we voted to freeze tuition for MNSCU students for this upcoming year, and to lower tuition for two-year students the following year. I understand the crippling effect student loan debt can have on our college graduates, and want to ensure a great education while continuing to make Minnesota schools more attractive to our prospective students. Next week, we will begin hearing education proposals on the House floor. I’m proud to have many of my proposals moving towards the floor and look forward to discussing these priorities with my colleagues.

State of the State Guest

Finally, it is an honor to highlight my guest for the Governor’s State of the State last week. Prior Lake High School government teacher Chris Gaudette was a large influence in my life and deepened my appreciation for our country and government process. Thank you to Mr. Gaudette for being my guest at the State of the State, and for all he does to ensure that every child in our community receives a world-class education
