Important information about flood damage

Monday, June 23, 2014

Dear Neighbors,

Governor Dayton declared a State of Emergency in 35 counties due to significant damage from flooding, activating a wide range of state resources and agencies to help with ongoing disaster relief efforts.

Tomorrow at 5:00pm, the Newport City Council is holding a meeting to declare a State of Emergency due to a failing levee, which is expected to put nearby homes at risk for flood damage. In South Saint Paul, the city is closing Hardman Avenue south of I-494 today in order to prepare flood control systems. And in Cottage Grove, the Public Works and Public Safety departments met today to discuss the possibility of sandbag deployment.

I’ve attached several documents to this email from the Minnesota Department of Commerce that outline steps you can take to prepare for insurance claims if your home or property is damaged by flooding. You can also click here to visit the Department’s webpage for more resources to help make well informed insurance decisions after a catastrophic loss.

If I can be of assistance in helping connect you with resources or state or local agencies, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at (651) 296-4342 or by email at rep.dan.schoen@house.mn. I will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

Sincerely,

Dan Schoen
State Representative, District 54A
