Springbrook Nature Center Included in Minnesota House Bonding Bill

Friday, May 23, 2014

St. Paul, Minnesota — Last week, the Minnesota House passed a Capital Investment package that includes $846 million in bonds and an additional bill that includes $200 million in further investments in infrastructure projects. The bills include priorities with statewide significance, focusing on higher education, regional assets, transportation, housing, and basic infrastructure.

“I’m pleased to report $5 million for the Springbrook Nature Center was included in the final bonding package,” said Rep. Connie Bernardy (DFL – Fridley). “It took a lot of committed people coming together in the community and at the legislature to make this project a reality.”

The funds for the Springbrook Nature Center will be used for an improvement project to the seven-acre entrance area, including replacing the old picnic shelter with a modern picnic pavilion with restrooms, water and grills; constructing a celebration plaza next to the picnic area for memorial services and other community events; constructing an outdoor amphitheater and five outdoor classrooms; expanding the parking lot; and constructing an addition onto the existing 5,600 square-foot interpretive center building to triple its size.

“Springbrook Nature Center is a gem in the north metro region that thousands of people visit each year,” said Rep. Bernardy. “This project will benefit our community for years to come. It will allow for more educational opportunities, events, and other gatherings at Springbrook for people of all ages.”
