AREA LEGISLATORS TEAM UP TO INTRODUCE 35W BRIDGE BILL

ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Roz Peterson, R-Lakeville, Rep. Drew Christensen, R-Burnsville, and other South Metro legislators introduced legislation Tuesday to provide funding for the replacement of the I-35W bridge over the Minnesota River. The project has been a priority for cities in the South Metro for a number of years, and would dramatically improve rush hour commutes for residents living south of the Minnesota River.

"This project will shorten commutes, and reduce rush hour congestion for the South Metro," Rep. Peterson said. "Replacing the I-35W bridge is a priority for residents in our area who want to reduce the number of accidents on this bridge, and finally address spring flooding issues we've had over the years as well. It's my hope that this bill will bring attention and focus to this important project, and ensure that it stays in discussion as we address our long-term road and bridge needs."

“I’ve heard from many constituents who have expressed their concerns about transportation to and from our district,” said Rep. Christensen. “This bill will ensure safety and ease of travel for residents in our district and those taking the I-35W bridge to and from work, school, and home. I look forward to continuing to share my constituents’ concerns with my colleagues as the bill progresses, and am proud of the work we have already done to prioritize their needs this legislative session.”

Representative Jon Koznick, R-Lakeville, Representative Tony Albright, R-Prior Lake, and Representative Bob Vogel, R-Elko New Market, have also signed on as co-authors. The bill was referred to the House Transportation Committee where it awaits its first hearing.
