Legislative Update (April 6, 2015)

Monday, April 6, 2015

Dear Lakeville neighbors and friends,

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend with your friends and family. As we return from the Easter/Passover break, we will be focusing on our budget priorities, ensuring that Minnesota’s future remains bright for our future generations.

Our House budget will cost the state $3 billion less than the Governor’s proposal. I, along with others Republicans, worked hard to prioritize and increase the E-12 Education funding target by over $1 Billion dollars in the ’16-‘17 biennium! Our budget targets provide $2 billion of tax relief to Minnesota families while continuing to invest in high-quality education, exemplary long-term care for our seniors and vulnerable adults, and ensuring safe and efficient travel for all Minnesotans.

Many of you have reached out to me to share your thoughts on two specific bills moving through the House. Despite the concerns that proponents of bills such as HF1783 have expressed, I believe in a free-market approach to business ventures such as Uber and will continue to support a limited role of government in business opportunities. This bill is blatantly trying to overregulate ridesharing.

More importantly, I have heard from many of you on HF1546, a bill to clarify a policy on transgender students, yet still protect all our other students’ interest. I support common sense laws, like this one, to ensure safe and fair opportunities for all our students. As the legislature reconvenes, I will be working with my colleagues to discuss these issues further and ensure legislation takes into account your concerns.

Please take my Legislative Survey and continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts and concerns on these bills or any other legislation that comes before the House. I enjoy hearing from you, my constituents and sharing your thoughts with my colleagues as we debate measures that impact the future of our state. If your group or business would like to have me tour or visit with you in Lakeville, let us know. I’ve enjoyed meeting and hearing from so many of you already. You can reach me via phone at (651) 296-4375 or via email at rep.jon.koznick@house.mn.

Have a great week,

Rep. Jon Koznick

Speaker Kurt Daudt congratulated me on my bill’s (
