News from Representative Newberger 03-27-2015

Friday, March 27, 2015

Hello friends!

It's been a good week in the Minnesota House! We have been working hard to get our bills heard. Today, Friday March 27th, this the second deadline for bills to be heard in finance committees if they are to become law. Legislators have been in committees until late hours to get work done for you, the people of Minnesota!

I would like to touch on 3 quick items of interest.

1. We heard a bill that addresses distracted driving in the Public Safety Committee. We passed HF 1085. It would increase the charges of Careless Driving up to a Gross Misdemeanor if you injure or kill someone while driving in this fashion. Currently there is little justice for those involved in these horrible situations. I voted in favor of this bill and it is on its way to the House Floor.

2. Energy. Today, we released our Energy Policy Bill. It has taken a lot of hard work and long hours but I am very proud of our committee and the work they have done. Our policy bill will bring a balanced approach to Minnesota's energy future. It is an inclusive step in the right direction. One that helps to promote an "All of the Above" Energy Future. All forms of Affordable, Clean and Abundant Energy energy are covered in this bill.

3. Have a GREAT Easter / Passover Season. God Bless you and your family.

God's peace,

Jim
