Dear neighbors,
On Mother’s Day, Governor Dayton signed the Women’s Economic Security Act into law.
This historic legislation makes Minnesota a better place to live, work and raise a family by taking steps such as:

Reducing the gender pay gap by requiring private businesses that contract with the state of Minnesota to ensure equal pay for equal work.

Expanding unpaid leave for both moms and dads under the Minnesota Parental Leave Act from 6 weeks to 12 weeks.

Strengthening workplace protections and requiring reasonable accommodations for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Expanding job opportunities for women in high-wage, high-demand occupations like computer science and engineering.
I was very proud to support the bill, which passed both the House and Senate with broad bipartisan support.

With one week left in the 2014 Legislative Session, I’m looking forward to taking action to pass a bipartisan bonding bill, approve a supplemental budget that invests in our schools and boosts wages for home and community-based caregivers, and enact additional property tax reductions for homeowners, renters and family farmers.
