News from Rep. Roz Peterson 03-27-2015

Friday, March 27, 2015
Dear Friends,

Next week the legislature will be on Easter Break, meaning no floor sessions or committee meetings. It will be nice to get away from Saint Paul for a week and spend some time back home talking with constituents and enjoying quality family time.

Transportation was the big issue for the week at the legislature. On Monday, Republicans released our long-term plan that would invest more than $7 billion over ten years without increasing taxes. Many of you have written, called, or spoken to me about your opposition to a gas tax increase. Our plan listens to those concerns, and shows a common-sense path forward that uses existing money to truly prioritize roads and bridges, rather than simply raising taxes to come up with the funding.

Existing sales taxes on auto parts, vehicle leases, and car rentals would be diverted from the general fund for roads and bridges. Our plan also uses bonding, and a small portion of the budget surplus, something many of you have expressed support for as well.

With two comprehensive but very different plans now in front of us, legislators can begin working to determine what the best way is to address our transportation needs long-term. I'm looking forward to those discussions once we return to Saint Paul for the final six week stretch.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions and concerns. You can reach me by email at rep.roz.peterson@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-5387.

Have a great weekend,

Roz Peterson
State Representative, District 56B
