Capitol Update from Rep. Dan Fabian

Friday, March 20, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

Here is an update from St. Paul.

New President for Northland Community

This week I met with Dennis Bona, the incoming President of Northland Community and Technical College who will be replacing retiring President Anne Temte in July.

I believe he will be a great new leader at NCTC, and I look forward to working with him in the coming years on state higher education policy. Welcome to Northwest Minnesota!

Native Youth Alliance of Minnesota

This week I also met with local sports hero, Henry Boucha and Lannesse Baker to talk about the Native Youth Alliance of Minnesota. This organization, founded in 2008, works with Native youth across Minnesota with the goal of preparing them for the future, helping them gain leadership skills and overcoming obstacles.

They are currently working on establishing an Indigenous Youth Research and Development Center to address the need for culturally relevant, strength based research regarding Native youth which will provide information to tribal leaders, policy makers, community members, youth and families.

It was great they were able to stop by the Capitol, and I appreciated hearing more about their great organization.

MPCA Legislation

Minnesotans deserve clean water and government accountability. That's why I am continuing to work on bipartisan legislation that reforms the MPCA, increasing the agency's transparency for both communities and taxpayers.

The Star Tribune recently published my editorial about these bills which you can read here.

Girls' State Basketball Tournament

Congratulations to our high school girls' basketball teams from Thief River Falls, Stephen-Argyle and Roseau who made the state basketball tournament! We are proud of you.

Thank you for being great student ambassadors for Northwest Minnesota.

Well done!
