Rep. Steve Simon statement on Senate approval of online voter registration bill

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

ST. PAUL, MN – House Elections Committee Chair Steve Simon (DFL – Hopkins) released the following statement after the Minnesota Senate passed his bill (House File 2096) establishing online voter registration as a permanent option for eligible Minnesota voters.

“I'm proud that legislative action brought this commonsense reform back to life after the recent court decision effectively ended it,” said Simon. “The result is greater convenience for eligible voters, savings for taxpayers, and a stronger democratic process. I’m very pleased an overwhelming bipartisan majority of state lawmakers took action to make Minnesota’s best-in-the-nation elections system even better.”

Governor Dayton says he intends to sign the bill into law.
