ST. PAUL, MN – House Elections Committee Chair Steve Simon (DFL – Hopkins) released the following statement today regarding a court decision to invalidate Minnesota’s existing online voter registration system.
“Online voter registration will soon become law in Minnesota despite today’s court decision. The House approved online voter registration as a permanent option for all eligible Minnesota voters by a vote of 129-2, so an overwhelming bipartisan majority of state lawmakers moved beyond the legal dispute about process and instead embraced the substance of this reform. Thanks to legislative action, we’re about to revive a common-sense policy that strengthens Minnesotans’ ability to participate in our democratic process.”
The entire Senate is expected to vote Tuesday, April 29 on the House version of the online voter registration bill authored by Rep. Simon (House File 2096).
