Legislative Update: Ski Safety Act

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On Thursday, the Civil Law and Data Practices Committee heard my bill HF 793, the Ski Safety Act. Minnesota is the only ski-destination state without a Ski Safety Act to protect skiers, resorts and ski slopes. This legislation brings us in line with other states, allowing people to understand there are inherent risks that come with skiing and by requiring slopes to communicate these risks with standardized signage as well as following national standards for ski-lift maintenance.

Making these changes improves skier safety and ensures everyone understands the rules and risks of partaking in this sport.

Minnesota is home to a number of great slopes like Buck Hill, Afton Alps, our own Wild Mountain and many others. I was asked to carry this legislation on behalf of the Minnesota Ski Areas Association and am pleased the bill is moving forward.

KSTP covered my Ski Safety Act, and you can read more about it here.

If you have comments about the Ski Safety Act or any other legislation introduced in the Minnesota House, please don't hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Bob
