Legislative Update (March 13, 2015)

Friday, March 13, 2015

Neighbors,

We have been very busy in committee these past few weeks, as the March 20th deadline to have new bills heard before the committee quickly approaches. I presented and testified on several important bills this past week.

On Thursday, I presented three bills in the Education Finance committee. HF838 and HF856 provide funding for increasing technology in the classroom, and HF854 increases operating capital revenue for our school districts to account for technology needs. As our students enter the 21st-century workforce, it’s imperative that they have the skills necessary for future success. Ensuring that classrooms have up-to-date methods for student learning will prepare our students for whatever their futures may hold.

I presented HF1615 in the Aging and Long-Term Care Policy committee on Wednesday, establishing a Silver Alert system to inform the public of missing senior citizens. The Silver Alert system would work in the same way as the Amber Alert system, providing the public with updates via technology to ensure that this vulnerable population is brought back home safely.

I enjoyed meeting with many of you at my in-district office hours in Savage last month. This month, I’m taking the office hours to Burnsville! You can meet with me at JoJo’s Rise and Wine (12501 Nicollet Avenue #100, Burnsville, MN 55337) on Saturday, March 28th from 9:00-11:00am. I’m looking forward to supporting another great local business and learning more about your concerns!

Please continue to stay in touch to share your thoughts and ideas on the bills heard in committee and in session. You can schedule a time to meet with me in my office any time by calling my Legislative Assistant at (651) 296-8891, or share your thoughts via email by emailing me at rep.drew.christensen@house.mn.

Enjoy your weekend.
