Legislative Update (March 6, 2015)

Friday, March 6, 2015

Friends and neighbors,

After several late nights in the legislature this week, I am proud to report that we are doing all we can to keep Minnesota’s future bright for our children and grandchildren.

Prioritizing Transportation Needs

As your State Representative, one of my top priorities is improving transportation in our district to reduce travel time and increase safety for you and your family. Majority Leader Peppin and I have authored a transportation bill to appropriate the funding to create a new exit onto 94 from Brockton Avenue. This important transportation improvement is necessary to ensure that Maple Grove is wholly connected to important interstates that will allow you and your neighbors to travel to and from our cities to surrounding areas with ease.

Putting Students First

I am proud to have co-authored
HF2, which passed off of the House floor last night. In our district, we are lucky to have phenomenal schools and dedicated teachers. HF2 will make it easier for our school district to hire and retain top-notch educators for all of our students. Thank you to my colleagues for putting students’ futures first!

Improving Our Business Climate

It was great to join the North Hennepin Chamber of Commerce last Friday! Thank you to the business leaders that attended to share their thoughts on legislation before the legislature that impacts their businesses. I enjoyed the discussion about the issues and challenges that face our state, and I am looking forward to continued discussion as we work to improve the business climate in Minnesota.

Increasing Public Safety

Thank you to Maple Grove Chief of Police, Eric Werner, for leading Monday’s discussion on recent burglaries in Maple Grove neighborhoods. To keep your family and belongings safe, always be sure to remove expensive items and your garage door opener from your vehicle, and be sure to notify the police if you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood. As a community, we can do our part to reduce the amount of crime that affects us and our neighbors.

Please stay in touch to discuss your thoughts on the multiple issues that impact you and your family. I enjoy taking your thoughts to my colleagues as we discuss legislation in the House, and it helps us to know how the decisions we made in the legislature will affect you. You can schedule a time to meet with me in my office by calling (651) 296-5356, or by emailing me at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn.

Have a great weekend.
