News from Rep. Roz peterson 03-06-2015

Friday, March 6, 2015
Dear Friends,

This week the House passed House File 2 (HF2), one of our top education bills this session. Our bill makes it easier for schools to retain their most effective teachers, and helps address Minnesota's teacher shortage by streamlining the process for out-of-state teachers to come to Minnesota and for school districts to hire qualified community experts when there is an opening that the district can't find a licensed teacher to fill.

Our bill would ask schools to consider evaluations and teacher effectiveness along with locally determined criteria such as seniority when school districts face unfortunate layoff decisions.

This is a good bill that gives local control to districts and will ultimately help boost student achievement in the long run. Effective teachers help put students on a pathway to success. We need to help schools keep their most effective teachers, and this bill will do just that.

Survey
Some of you may have received a copy of my 2015 legislative survey in the mail this week. If you didn't receive a copy, please consider taking the survey by clicking here. I truly value your input and feedback, and hope you'll share my survey with your neighbors, friends, and family in our district. The more feedback I get, the better I can represent our community.
