RELEASE: Uglem authors bill to restore Champlin Mill Pond

Thursday, March 5, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Mark Uglem, R-Champlin has introduced legislation that requests bonding funds for the restoration of the Champlin Mill Pond for recreation and fishing use. The legislation comes one year after Uglem successfully secured bonding funds to replace the Champlin Mill Pond Dam, the first bonding funds ever received by the City of Champlin.

Uglem said that the city has agreed to provide matching funds for the proposal, and is fully supportive of restoring the pond as a fishery. The city also plans to pursue other funding sources, including state grants as alternative or supplemental funding sources for the project.

"Restoring Champlin's Mill Pond as a fishery will mean more outdoor recreation opportunities for Champlin, Coon Rapids, and other surrounding communities," Uglem said. "I am grateful for the local support for this project, and hope to see bonding funds dedicated in the next two years."

The bill was referred to the Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance Committee where it awaits its first hearing. DFL Sen. John Hoffman, DFL-Champlin, is chief-authoring the companion bill in the Senate.
