Legislative Update (Feb. 27, 2015)

Friday, February 27, 2015

Friends and neighbors,

It has been a busy week in the House as I work hard to make government work for you and your family.

February Budget Forecast

This morning, the Minnesota Management and Budget office released the February Budget Forecast. The Commissioner informed us that Minnesota is poised to face a $1.869 billion surplus. I would recommend that this surplus is to be used to provide tax relief to Minnesota families, as well as invest in roads and bridges in order to make it safer and easier to travel across our state.

First Bill Passed By the House

On Thursday, my first bill, HF262, was passed unanimously by the House. My bill reduces time and cost for land sellers by streamlining the land plat approval process. In the status quo, some local governments require developers or property owners to submit abstracts with a request for plat approval, while others only permit the title insurance or title opinion. My bill clarifies that the documents required for land plat approval are left up to the individual city council, town board, or board of county commissioners. This common-sense solution will help to streamline the process, saving time and money for our cities and developers and owners. I am proud to be the first freshman member to have my stand-alone bill passed by the House!

Many of you have already reached out to me to discuss your ideas on legislation before the House.
