Legislative Update (Feb. 20, 2015)

Friday, February 20, 2015

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It is an honor to serve as your voice at the Capitol.

As you may have heard, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released their report on MNsure on Tuesday. The findings were disappointing, echoing much of what many of you have told me on the campaign trail and when speaking to me throughout the legislative session thus far. Among the findings released by the Legislative Auditor:

  • A majority of MNsure enrollees spent more than four hours on the enrollment process
  • 75% of those surveyed reported “significant” technical problems with the exchange website
  • MNsure missed its enrollment projections by 88%

Overall, the Legislative Auditor concluded that “MNsure’s failures outweighed its achievements.”

I understand that this process has been frustrating for you and your family, and my colleagues and I are working to deliver on the promises made before the bill was passed. I’ve co-authored HF5 with Rep. Tara Mack (R-Apple Valley), which restores affordability and accountability in MNsure. The bill requires the Department of Commerce to seek all waivers necessary to allow Minnesotans to receive a tax credit, regardless of which state they purchase their health insurance in, and increases transparency of the program itself. I’m proud to have the opportunity to discuss this common-sense solution with my colleagues.

As always, please do not hesitate to stay in touch to share your thoughts and concerns on any legislation or any issues in our community which affect you and your family. I have greatly enjoyed meeting with so many constituents in our district and in Saint Paul!

You can set up a time to meet with me in my office by calling my Legislative Assistant at (651) 296-2208, or email me directly at rep.nels.pierson@house.mn.

I am honored to serve you.
