House DFL leaders release statement on Rep. Brynaert’s service to Minnesota

Monday, March 24, 2014

St. Paul, Minnesota — This Sunday, State Representative Kathy Brynaert (DFL – Mankato) announced she will not seek re-election to the Minnesota House. Speaker Paul Thissen and House Majority Leader Erin Murphy released the following statement:

Speaker Paul Thissen:

“I want to thank Rep. Kathy Brynaert for her eight years of distinguished service in the state legislature. Rep. Brynaert was the paradigm of a thoughtful legislator, who took seriously her role as a policymaker. Indeed, her legislative service overlapped with a time of contentious debates over school reform that too often veered into partisan posturing. It was Rep. Bryaert’s ideas on teacher evaluation and fact based-approach that actually became the law in Minnesota, and for the benefit of students and families across our state. We will miss her attention to detail and ability to work with legislators across the aisle to accomplish good legislation, especially when it comes to education policy.”

House Majority Leader Erin Murphy:

“The Minnesota House is losing a respected and thoughtful legislator in Representative Brynaert. Her concerted work in education policy will leave a lasting and meaningful benefit for our teachers, schools and students. She has truly made a difference to improve Minnesota’s education system for another generation of students.

I will miss Rep. Brynaert’s friendship, her even-temperament, even in the face of political adversity, and her genuine focus on delivering the best legislation possible for Minnesotans. I wish Kathy and her family all the best.”
