News from Rep. Tara Mack 02-13-2015

Friday, February 13, 2015
Dear Friends,

Next week the Legislative Auditor will release a long-awaited report on MNsure detailing the internal management issues and oversight problems that resulted in a flawed rollout of the program in 2013.

The Legislative Auditor's office is non-partisan and will give us a unfiltered, unbiased assessment of the problems that plagued MNsure, and what we can do to move forward and make the agency more accountable and function better for the taxpayers who help fund it.

Once the report is released, I anticipate holding hearings on the report and the various bipartisan bills aimed at making changes to how MNsure operates. I will keep you up to date as those proposals move through the process.

This week in committee, we continued to hear presentations on the Governor's Health and Human Services budget proposal. Health and Human Services is the second-largest portion of the state's budget next to education, so as you can imagine there is a great deal of information to review as we take a look at the Governor's budget and begin to put together our House proposal in the coming weeks.

Update on Commissioner Salaries
The DFL-controlled Senate voted this week to put a six-month delay on the Governor's salary increases to his commissioners to give the legislature more time to act and decide the best path forward.

A House proposal by Lakeville Rep. Roz Peterson proposes to remove the Governor's authority to single-handedly raise salaries, putting those decisions back in the hands of the legislature where the public can be involved and make their voices heard.

The House is likely to take action on the salary issue next week.

Have a great weekend,

Tara Mack
State Representative, District 57A
