Dear neighbors,
It has been another busy week at the Capitol filled with committee hearings on a range of issues. We have a shortened session this year, so we are working at a fast clip to accomplish all of our work before deadlines arrive. All policy bills must be heard by their respective committees by the first deadline next Friday in order to “stay alive” and continue on the legislative process this year.
This week I wanted to share with you some of my work on the House Civil Law Committee. Two of my bills were heard in that committee this week, as well as a number of bills about personal data privacy and data security.

HF 2259- Women’s Economic Security
This bill is a part of the Women’s Economic Security Act, a major legislative push this year to make Minnesota’s economy more equitable to women. This bill provides some clarification for employment protections for nursing mothers who need to pump while at work.
HF 2142 –Domestic Violence Prevention
This bill is part of an initiative that intends to reduce the harmful effects of domestic violence in our state. This bill provides victims of domestic violence notification of the intended whereabouts of the perpetrators of a crime when they are going to be released from prison.
We are hearing a number of bills in committee related to cell phone data, unmanned drones, and how the state of Minnesota can ensure our citizens that their privacy is being protected. I will continue to update you about these bills in the future.
