Legislative Update (Feb. 6, 2015)

Friday, February 6, 2015

Friends and Neighbors,

I had a great week at the Capitol and in our district. I am honored to represent you!

Transportation

One of my top priorities is making it easier for you and your family to travel to school, work, or anywhere else in our community. Along with area legislators, I’ve authored HF201, which appropriates funding to expand Highway 94. Extra lanes will make the highway safer and less congested for your daily travels. I’m looking forward to continuing to discuss this bill and other transportation ideas with my colleagues.

Civil Law and Data Practices Committee

Among my duties as Vice Chair of the Civil Law and Data Practices committee is to chair the committee when Chair Peggy Scott is unavailable. As she presented her bill on Tuesday, I had the opportunity to conduct official committee business. I am very proud of the work being done in our committee to protect your data!

Maple Grove Town Hall

I enjoyed meeting with many of you at my town hall with Rep. Peppin and Sen. Limmer in Maple Grove on Tuesday night. Thank you for sharing your concerns and offering your solutions to the issues we discuss here in the legislature. Your input is so valuable to us!

Don’t Miss It

If you missed my town hall in Maple Grove, mark your calendars for my Osseo town hall on the 10th! I’m looking forward to speaking with many of you about the issues that concern you and your family.

I’ll see you on February 10th, 2015 from 7:00PM to 8:30PM at the Osseo City Hall (415 Central Avenue, Osseo, MN 55369).

Celebrating Our Teachers

It was great to meet with Patricia Magnuson, Executive Director of Finance and Operations for District 279, to discuss how we at the legislature can help our district staff and teachers be more effective in preparing our students for the next stage in their lives. Thanks to Patricia for stopping by my office!

Last, but certainly not least, congratulations to Osseo teachers Kristina Campea, Jennifer Hairrell, and Jeanette Lepore on their nomination for the 2015 Teacher of the Year award! The students in our district continue to succeed in their studies due to the fantastic teachers in District 279, and I am very proud to represent a district with so many committed, creative, and inspired teachers. Best of luck to Ms. Campea, Ms. Hairrell, and Ms. Lepore as the next list of finalists is revealed!

Please stay in touch to share your thoughts and concerns regarding legislation introduced this session, or any other matters to which I can be of assistance. You can schedule an appointment to visit my office by calling me at (651) 296-5502, or email me at Rep.Dennis.Smith@house.mn.
