Legislative Update: Telecommunications sales tax repeal work begins

Monday, February 24, 2014

Dear Neighbors,

Last week I took part in a bipartisan press conference to introduce a bill that will reduce taxes, create jobs, and strengthen Minnesota's economy and communications infrastructure. I’ve authored a bill to reinstate a sales tax exemption for equipment purchases by telecommunications companies who are working to expand and strengthen broadband networks throughout the state. Continuing the exemption will help telecommunications companies make necessary investments in the communications infrastructure of our state, and also help keep people employed.

As our economy continues to recover, we need to make sure that all parts of the state are seeing the benefits of the recovery. To do that, all homes and businesses must have the same access to broadband internet, cellular service, and other communications tools necessary for making a business work in a 21st century economy.

I am hopeful that a positive long term budget forecast at the end of this week will allow us to repeal taxes that will enable residents and businesses to continue to invest in the future of our community and our state. I am also asking for your ideas for the ‘unsession’. Please send me suggestions for how you think state government can be streamlined and made more efficient.

I can be reached at 651-296-7803 or rep.paul.rosenthal@house.mn at anytime.

Sincerely,

Paul Rosenthal

State Representative (District 49B)
