LEGISLATIVE ENERGY COMMISSION TO HOLD HEARING ON PROPANE ISSUES

ST. PAUL, MN –Today at 3:00 pm, the Legislative Energy Commission will hold a hearing to address the propane shortage across Minnesota. Updates will be provided by the Governor’s Office as well as those in the propane industry. After which the commission will discuss both short and long term issues related to Minnesota’s propane market. Rep. Melissa Hortman, Co-Chair of the Legislative Energy Commission, is hoping to see improvements made in the upcoming legislative session.

"This winter's propane shortage has had a dramatic impact upon Minnesotans. This hearing will give us a chance to take a closer look at what steps have been taken so far to improve the situation. We are hoping to learn what additional steps the Minnesota Legislature should take in the short term to ensure that all Minnesotans have adequate heat. In addition, we will be looking at what long term policy options we have to prevent such a shortage in the future. The Governor, the Minnesota Department of Commerce, and our US Senators have taken a number of actions that have been helpful to Minnesotans.  In the upcoming legislative session, I expect that Minnesota's legislators will also be providing help.”
