RELEASE: Statement from Rep. Roz Peterson on passage of disaster relief bill

Tuesday, January 27, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Roz Peterson, R-Lakeville, issued the following statement after the legislature unanimously approved a disaster relief bill during Monday's legislative session. The funding was passed to help cities and counties continue recovery efforts after severe flooding last summer. The bill will help 47 counties and three tribal governments, and is primarily funded thanks to the unspent money from 2011 and 2012 disaster relief appropriations. The bill includes just $2.2 million in new spending, as well as $13 million in matching funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

"I'm glad to see that Dakota County and 46 other counties across Minnesota will receive much-needed disaster relief money to continue the efforts to fully recover from last summer's floods," Peterson said. "It's great that the legislature can continue its tradition of coming together to support disaster relief efforts on a bipartisan basis."

The bill passed the Senate last week, and is expected to be signed by Governor Dayton.
