Legislative Update (Jan. 23, 2015)

Friday, January 23, 2015

Friends,

Though it was a short week in the legislature due to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, I’ve been very busy at the Capitol as I work to improve Minnesota’s future for you and your family.

Giving our Children a World-Class Education

It is imperative that we give our children every chance to succeed, starting with a world-class education. I am proud to sign on to HF2, authored by Rep. Jenifer Loon, which focuses on keeping the best teachers in the classroom, strengthening teacher licensure standards to ensure that our educators enter the classroom with a firm foundation of academic skills, increasing access to high-quality teachers by encouraging licensure reciprocity and exploring other licensure pathways, and empowering school districts to seek teachers from their community. I believe that these measures will strengthen Minnesota schools and give our students the best chance of academic success.

Standing for Life

I was honored to attend the MCCL March for Life event at the Capitol on Thursday. I’m shocked and saddened that 57 million babies have lost their lives since Roe v. Wade. It was a blessing to be able to stand for life with hundreds of Minnesotans from across the state on a beautiful winter day. I am committed to protecting the fundamental right to life for our most vulnerable Minnesotans.

I enjoy meeting with you to talk about the issues that are most important to you and your family. If you plan on visiting St. Paul, please contact my Legislative Assistant at (651) 296-5813 to set up an appointment to meet with me in my office at the Capitol. As always, please feel free to contact me via email at rep.peggy.scott@house.mn. If your friends and neighbors don’t receive my email updates, encourage them to stay up-to-date on the legislative session by signing up for updates here. I look forward to continuing to hear from many of you as the legislative session progresses.

Sincerely,

Rep. Peggy Scott
