Speaker Thissen: Rep. Huntley will be remembered as a giant of the Minnesota State Legislature

Tuesday, December 17, 2013

St. Paul, Minnesota β€” Today, State Representative Tom Huntley announced he will not seek re-election to the Minnesota House. Speaker Paul Thissen released the following statement:

β€œTom Huntley will be remembered as one of the giants of the Minnesota State Legislature.

He was my mentor and a great friend. I learned from him not only about health care, but more importantly, how to be a legislator who gets things done in a way where everyone feels their voice is heard. He respected people and people respected him. We will miss that in the legislature.

His list of legislative achievements is long. From his role in the creation of Minnesota Care to the Freedom to Breathe Act to his work protecting the Great Lakes to the groundbreaking Minnesota health care reform law in 2008, Tom leaves a lasting legacy. And even in the most challenging budget times, he never lost sight of the fact that a fundamental job of government is to make sure that people who work hard and play by the rules are not left behind.

Tom has a lot left to do for the state. His voice on making sure all Minnesotans have access to talented primary care physicians in every corner of the state is incredibly important. Nonetheless, I will really miss having him in the Minnesota House of Representatives.”
