Legislative Update (Jan. 16, 2015)

Friday, January 16, 2015

Friends,

Session is off to a great start, and we are working hard to introduce and pass bills that improve the lives of all Minnesotans. It is a great honor to have the opportunity to serve our community in St. Paul.

Last night, we unanimously passed Federal Tax Conformity and immediately provided hardworking Minnesotans with $19.9 million of tax relief, including deductions for homeowners, teachers, students, and more. I’m proud that our first bill will save you and your family time and money as you file their taxes this year.

On January 8th, I was honored to join WWII veterans for the screening of the D-Day: Normandy 1944 movie. I am so grateful for the service of our veterans and for the service of these WWII fighting men, who literally, saved the world. They are indeed members of the Greatest Generation and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with them. You can see the film at the Science Museum of Minnesota through February 19th.

As the former mayor of Waconia, I understand the necessity for our community to be able to make the choices that best fit our needs. That’s why I’ve co-authored HF75, which ensures that all Metropolitan Council guidelines and plans are advisory in nature, not compulsory. Our community must be able to accept or reject a plan based off of the impact it will have on our businesses and residents, not suffer the consequences without any say in its implementation. I look forward to continuing to discuss this bill with my colleagues as it moves through committee and is introduced on the House floor.

I’m excited to meet with many of you to discuss the legislation introduced before the House this session. Please feel free to call my Legislative Assistant at (651) 295-5999 to schedule an appointment to visit me in my office, or email me directly at rep.jim.nash@house.mn. If your neighbors or friends have not yet signed up to receive email updates from me, encourage them to do so by sending them this link: http://bit.ly/1y5BqQb.

It is an honor to work for you.

Rep. Jim Nash
