Rep. Backer Votes In Favor of Immediate Tax Relief For All Minnesotans

Friday, January 16, 2015

St. Paul- State Representative Jeff Backer, R-Browns Valley, issued the following statement following the passage of House File 6, which conforms Minnesota tax code to federal changes that have occurred since 2013 as it pertains to items being filed for 2014. The bill includes deductions for higher education tuition, educator classroom expenses, and mortgage insurance premiums. In total, House File 6 provides $19.9 million dollars in immediate tax relief to Minnesota taxpayers.

“Minnesotan’s pay enough in taxes already, that’s why I am glad that the first bill passed off the House floor leaves more money in taxpayers’ pockets,” Backer said. “It is encouraging that House Democrats and Republicans were able to work together to ensure that Minnesota’s hard working taxpayers will see close to $20 million dollars in tax relief.”

HF 6 passed the House on a unanimously bipartisan vote of 129-0. A similar bill is currently in the Senate and could be passed as soon as next week.
