Legislative Update: Breaking Ground for the Newport Transit Station

Monday, November 25, 2013

Dear neighbors,

Earlier today, I joined Senator Amy Klobuchar, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, Senator Katie Sieben, and other local elected officials to help break ground at the Newport Transit Station along the future Red Rock Corridor.

It took a lot of time and hard work to get to this point, but it’s starting to pay off. Residents of southern Washington County are finally seeing results.

The Washington County Board recently approved a scaled down version of the transit center. I want to thank Commissioners Ted Bearth, Gary Kriesel and Fran Miron for supporting the project and recognizing the need for better transit options throughout Washington County. While those three elected officials do not represent our District, they did represent our priorities.

Former Washington County Commissioner Myra Peterson began to advocate for better transit service in our region many years ago. Over time, she brought citizens together to speak out for improvements to our roads, bridges and transit options to serve the needs of our growing population.

Kicking off construction of the Newport Transit Station represents the beginning of bigger and better things for our area – especially the citizens of Newport. That kind of development will bring more customers to local businesses and give our neighbors more options to get to work, shop, and enjoy entertainment and recreation in our region.

Please contact me with any questions about the Newport Transit Station or the Red Rock Corridor. You can reach me by phone at (651) 296-4342, by email at rep.dan.schoen@house.mn, or by postal mail at 533 State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55155.

Sincerely,

Dan Schoen
State Representative, District 54A
