East Side Redevelopment moves forward

with demolition of Erick’s Bar

ST. PAUL – On Thursday, November 21, the final piece of an East Side redevelopment project will fall into place. Erick’s Bar will be razed to help launch the final phase of the Beacon Bluff Redevelopment Project in St Paul.

The demolition comes on the heels of deal announced last month by the St Paul Port Authority, which used a grant of $483,840 to purchase Eric's Bar and complete site improvements.

State Rep. Tim Mahoney, Chair of the House Jobs and Economic Development Committee is happy to see new jobs coming to the area.

“This has been a problem bar for as long as I can remember,” said Mahoney. “Redeveloping this site will mean removing those problems and adding new employees to the east side that can take advantage of neighborhood restaurants and businesses.”

An armored car company plans to relocate to one of the buildings that will be built in the final phase. The project is expected to create 20 jobs, retain 81 jobs and increase the local tax base by $262,965.

Beacon Bluff, the largest business industrial redevelopment project in 20 years in St. Paul, is a multi-parcel business park that involved more than 30 private and public business partners. Several tenants have already committed to the site, including Baldinger Bakery, which has a 140,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on the north end of the property, and HealthEast, which built a 45,000-square-foot ambulance training facility on the west end of the site.
