Greetings From Rep. Abigail Whelan

Friday, January 9, 2015

Dear Neighbors,

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your new state representative for District 35A, and I am excited to get to work for you. The Anoka and Ramsey communities are great places to live, work, and raise a family. I am looking forward to going to St. Paul to help improve on the many things that make our community such a wonderful place.

Session officially began this past Tuesday with all 134 members of the House taking the oath of office. I was fortunate enough to be joined by my family as well as a few friends to share in this joyous occasion. Along with the swearing in ceremony, my colleagues and I voted to elect Rep. Kurt Daudt as Speaker of the House for the next two years. Additionally, we voted to elect a new Chief Clerk, and appointed some non-partisan staff to their official posts.

Committees begin to meet regularly next week and I am excited to read and get working on bills that have the potential to improve our community. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how we can improve our state, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I am fortunate to have been appointed to four committees. They include Education Innovation Policy, Higher Education Policy and Finance, Property Tax and Local Government Finance Division, and Transportation Policy and Finance. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in committee to find ways that we can make Minnesota a better state.

Please keep an eye on your email as I will be sending out weekly updates to keep you up-to-speed on everything that is taking place here at the legislature.

Again, I am grateful to have been elected as your state representative and cannot wait to get to work on the issues that matter most to our community and the state. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you ever have a comment, question, or concern on anything related to the legislature. I can be reached by phone at 651-296-1729 or via email at rep.abigail.whelan@house.mn.

Thank you!

Abigail
