PEPPIN SWORN IN FOR SIXTH TERM, ASSUMES MAJORITY LEADER POSITION

Tuesday, January 6, 2015
ST. PAUL – State Rep. Joyce Peppin (R-Rogers) was officially sworn into office today for her sixth term as a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.

In addition to her duties as the state representative for House District 34A – encompassing the cities of Rogers, Dayton, and the northern and western portions of Maple Grove – Peppin assumed the role of House Majority Leader. Peppin was elected to the position by fellow members of the Republican caucus on November 7.

“I’m humbled to once again be able to serve the people of the northwest suburbs in the Minnesota House for another term. Additionally, I’m honored to be able to lead my fellow Republican colleagues as House Majority Leader,” said Peppin. “Although I’m taking on a new leadership role at the House, my first priority has been, and will remain addressing the needs and priorities of my constituents in Rogers, Dayton, and Maple Grove.”

As House Majority Leader, Peppin is second-in-command of the 72-member House Republican Majority Caucus and is charged with scheduling legislation for the House floor and leading floor debate.

Peppin is the second Republican woman to serve as House Majority Leader in Minnesota history. Connie Levi, a Republican state representative from Dellwood, was the first woman of either party to become House Majority Leader in 1985.
