Legislative Update (Dec. 22, 2014)

Monday, December 22, 2014

Dear neighbor,

Last week we received our committee assignments for the 2015 and 2016 legislative sessions. I’ve been appointed by Speaker-designate Daudt to serve on five committees including Transportation Policy & Finance, Greater Minnesota Economic & Workforce Development Policy, Public Safety & Crime Prevention Policy & Finance, Rules & Legislative Administration, and Higher Education Policy & Finance where I will serve as vice chair.

I’m honored to be given the opportunity to be a vice chair of a committee only in my second term. As I’ve toured small businesses from around the state, I’ve heard consistently from job creators that getting a four-year college degree isn’t the only way to get a good-paying job. For instance, many manufacturing companies in Minnesota are looking for individuals with a technical education. I plan to use that jobs-oriented perspective as we craft legislation for higher education.

MAKING HISTORY

I’m proud to announce that my brother, Representative-elect Brian Daniels (R-Faribault), and I will be making history on January 6, 2015 when we’re both sworn into office. We are the first sister and brother pair to serve together in the legislature. Mary Lahammer of TPT’s Almanac did a story about us and other siblings who have served concurrently at the Capitol.

CHRISTMAS

I want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year! You’ll certainly hear from me more regularly soon once session begins in January.

Sincerely,

Marion
