News from Representative Kresha 12-05-2014

Friday, December 5, 2014
Dear Friends,

I hope you're staying warm and having a pleasant start to the Holiday season. The weather forecast looks great! I can't believe Christmas and Hannukah are just around the corner but I hope you get a chance to participate in the many Christmas concerts, festivals and gatherings. I for one can vouch for awesomeness of kids singing holiday songs.

Here are some updates from this past week in St. Paul.

House Leadership Team
On Tuesday, my colleagues and I gathered in St. Paul to elect the remaining members of our leadership team. I am humbled and excited to join the House leadership team as an Assistant Majority Leader. As a member of the House leadership team, I will be working with our incoming Speaker Kurt Daudt, Majority Leader Peppin, and the rest of the leadership team to steer the direction of our caucus, and the priorities we focus on during the upcoming session.

My top priority remains, first and foremost, to serve our community and be your voice at the legislature. Your priorities will be the priorities I bring to my leadership role, and I will continue to be a strong voice for our area as we debate and discuss solutions to the problems facing our state.

Vice Chair of Education Finance Committee
On Wednesday, I was selected to serve as the Vice Chair of the Education Finance Committee. I will be working with Committee Chair Rep. Jenifer Loon from Eden Prairie as we explore ways to improve the education system for students, parents, and teachers alike. Minnesota kids deserve a world-class education, but the status quo just isn't cutting it for many children in parts of the state. Tackling the achievement gap and reducing the funding gap between rural and metro schools will be two of the top issues in this upcoming session that both sides are ready to come to the table and address.

Committee assignments are set to be released next week, and I will be sure to update you once that information becomes available. As always, please know that my door is open and I welcome your input, thoughts, and suggestions. You can reach my office by calling 651-296-4247 or by email at rep.ron.kresha@house.mn.

Have a great weekend,

Ron Kresha
State Representative, District 09B
