Rep. Kiel named a “Guardian of Small Business”

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

ST. PAUL, MINN.—State Rep. Deb Kiel (R-Crookston) today was named a “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Independent Business—Minnesota.

“It has always been my goal to protect the best interests of folks who labor day in and day out to make northwest Minnesota a better place to live, work and raise a family. Small business owners and their employees are the backbone of our economy, and they are the ones who truly deserve the credit,” said Rep. Kiel.

According to the NFIB, legislators had to demonstrate a supportive voting record for small businesses during the 2013-14 legislative sessions in order to receive the prestigious recognition. This included standing up against $2.1 billion in new taxes and new health care policy that negatively affects small businesses.

“Representative Kiel is a real friend of small business and we are happy to announce that she has earned the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award,” said Mike Hickey, State Director.

NFIB is the state’s largest small business group, with 13,000 members statewide.
