House Republican Statement on Preferred One withdrawing from MNsure

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

St. Paul, MN—It was reported Tuesday that MNsure’s largest commercial provider, PreferredOne, will no longer offer plans through the exchange for 2015.

“Earlier this year, Governor Dayton promised Minnesotans ‘we’re going to make this better.’ My question to Governor Dayton is: when? How long do Minnesotans have to wait?” said House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt (Crown).

According to MNsure documents, 59 percent of Minnesotans who purchased a commercial plan through MNsure, chose PreferredOne as their provider.

“As a result of Democrats’ refusal to fix Obamacare in Minnesota, more than 30,000 Minnesotans may now have to choose between keeping their doctor or paying more for their health insurance,” said Rep. Tara Mack (Apple Valley).

"Democrats spent $160,000,000 on a website that doesn't work, and now the largest insurance carrier in MNsure is pulling out because nothing has been done to fix those problems," added Rep. Joe Hoppe (Chaska).

Rep. Mack and Rep. Hoppe both serve as the House Republican members of the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee.
