INPUT SOUGHT IN ORDER TO SPEED UP INTERNET SERVICE

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

ST. PAUL – Rep. Jeff Howe, R-Rockville, is seeking input from local citizens in an attempt to improve area Internet service.

The state is appropriating $20 million in grant funding to increase broadband access in Greater Minnesota. A portion of this funding, Howe said, should be used to fix pockets that are unserved or underserved in District 13A. Constituent input is needed to identify where these black holes in service exist and assist officials in the grant-application process.

“What we’re trying to do is identify locations in our district that either don’t have Internet service or are severely limited,” Howe said. “One problem is that some coverage maps show areas do have broadband service but, in reality, there are black holes within those areas where service is lacking. We can put together grant-funding requests if we know where these soft areas are, but it is important to have that information as we formulate a plan.

“I have heard from a number of area residents who have Internet issues, but it would be helpful to learn from people how many more locations are lacking as we assess the situation and determine what can and should be done.”

Howe encourages constituents to contact his legislative office and provide information regarding their location if they have issues pertaining to Internet delivery. Addresses and phone numbers are requested. Contact Howe at (651) 296-4373 or rep.jeff.howe@house.mn to provide input.
