Town hall attendance appreciated; local tidbits and more

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Dear Neighbor,

Thank you to all the people who attended the town hall meetings Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen and I recently co-hosted in Perham, Pelican Rapids, Fergus Falls and Battle Lake. The input we received is highly appreciated as we continue working to represent the people of this area.

We are now reaching the time of year when local parades and festivals will take place and county fairs are just around the corner. I encourage citizens to get out and attend these events. We live in the greatest part of Minnesota and have access to outstanding lakes and rivers. Outdoor recreation plays a huge part in our local economy. Please do your best to support our local shop owners as you are out and about enjoying summer. Many area workers depend on summer to get themselves through our long winter months.

Also, Battle Lake will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. this Saturday to unveil its “new” downtown, which was revamped in conjunction with an extensive Highway 78 project. Let’s hope this revitalization effort brings new activity to downtown.

On another note, the final leg of the trail between Battle Lake and Glendalough State Park is scheduled for completion in July. This trail will be a regional and statewide asset and it is good to see so many local families and businesses provide support to make it reality with minimal taxpayer expense.

Finally, the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State recently released an updated notice of vacancies for various state boards, councils and committees that are accepting applications.

Application forms are available online and must be submitted by June 24 to be assured of full consideration by the appointing authority. I encourage area citizens to apply to serve these boards to ensure we have local voices involved in the process.

Take care until next time,

Bud
