This week, the Minnesota Department of Education released the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) report card for each school district in the state, tracking their success under the No Child Left Behind guidelines. I was very pleased to see that the Anoka Hennepin School District showed significant improvements.
In the past few years of flat funding and budget cuts, our teachers and support staff have really come through for our students. They are to be commended for their excellent work under less than ideal circumstances. Fortunately, the education bill that we passed in the 2005 session will bring some much needed financial relief for our schools, providing the most significant funding increase in over two decades.
As a first-term legislator, one of my top priorities was to secure adequate funding for our schools. I am very proud to have played a part in passing this strong education bill that provides an excellent start to restoring the funding our schools need. I am committed to continuing this success and will work for adequate, predictable and stable funding for our students in the future.
I want to extend my thanks to all of you who work in our schools and to our community members for your unwavering support of our children. You continue to provide the excellence in education that this generation needs to lead us into the future.
