Saint Paul, Minnesota – Speaker Paul Thissen released this statement following the historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act – the law barring the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriage in states – is unconstitutional.
“Today the Supreme Court came to the same conclusion that we did in Minnesota just last month – that every person, regardless of sexual orientation, should be free to marry the person they love. The Court's decision is a victory for freedom, equality and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans.
Minnesota is now squarely on the right side of history and I am proud of the role we played - Democrats and Republicans alike - in bending the long arc of the moral universe towards justice.”
