News from Representative Uglem 07-15-2014

Tuesday, July 15, 2014
Dear Friends,

I hope your summer is going well and you're enjoying the nice weather we've been having over the past few weeks.

This will be my last email update for 2014. State law requires that legislators may not send out legislative email updates and mass mailings from July 15th through November 4th. However, I am still able to respond to individual constituent emails and letters, so please don't hesitate to contact me at any time by email at rep.mark.uglem@house.mn or by phone at 651-296-5513.

I remain committed to being there for you, and responding to your questions, comments, concerns, and requests for assistance dealing with state or local government, or any other constituent service issue that may arise.

I want to thank you for the tremendous honor of serving the communities of Champlin and Coon Rapids for the past two years. It's been a privilege to represent the community I love, and am grateful to all of you who have contacted me with questions, comments, and words of support. Your emails, phone calls, and conversations have helped me better represent our area.

During my first term, I've worked to focus on issues important to the community during my first term in St. Paul. Rather than getting wrapped up in the partisan back and forth, I worked across party lines to secure funds for the completion of Highway 610 to Highway 94, as well as funds for the Champlin Mill Pond Dam, the first bonding funds the city of Champlin has ever received. These projects may not receive all the headlines, but will go a long way toward improving critical infrastructure in our community.

I also stood up for your second amendment rights, working with a bipartisan coalition to prevent any legislation that may have infringed on the rights of law-abiding gun owners. The legislature also passed the bipartisan Women's Economic Security Act, bolstering leave accommodations for working families and mothers, and boosting grants for women-owned businesses, among other provisions. I'm proud of the fact that on numerous occasions this session, legislators from both parties were able to come together to get things done for Minnesota, putting the partisan politics aside.

Please keep in touch as the summer continues. I will keep working hard on your behalf from now until my first term officially concludes in January 2015.

Have a great summer, and don't be a stranger.

Mark Uglem
State Representative, District 36A
