News from Representative Erickson 06-13-2014

Friday, June 13, 2014

Dear Friends,

This Sunday we honor all fathers and grandfathers and I send my best wishes to both. I was blessed to have my father live until he turned 60 and my husband until he turned 45. In reality those are short periods but also very special times.

Both men worked hard and demonstrated what it takes to raise children of character. This year our son will celebrate three years as a father and I know he treasures every day, remembering that during his teen years his father passed and, believe me, mothers cannot take the place of a father even though we try.

Flag Day
June 14 is celebrated annually as Flag Day after on June 14, 1777, Congress designated the stars and stripes as our official flag. Today we celebrate Flag Day as a way to remember that historic event.

The American flag represents freedom, liberty and justice. When we pledge allegiance to our flag, we are really celebrating our shared American values and what our flag symbolizes.

Having recently observed both Memorial Day and the anniversary of D-Day, it’s important to remember all of the men and women who fought and died under the flag—defending our freedoms and way of life.

Happy Flag Day to you and your family, and best wishes for a Happy Father’s Day
